Judi Dench stars as Philomena Lee, who was forced by nuns at her convent to give away her baby in 1952. Years later she meets reporter, Martin Sixsmith (Steve Coogan) who wants to expose the Catholic Church for its cruelty and agrees to help her find the son who was shipped away to America.
