North Face

Based on the true story of German climbers Toni Kurz (Benno Fürmann) and Andi Hinterstoisser (Florian Lukas) who attempted to scale the 13,000 Mt. Eiger's 5,900-foot near-vertical north wall, then unconquered, in mid-July 1936. Director Phillip Stolzl captures the magnificence of the landscape and the heart-stopping danger that faces the athletes. Not Rated; in German with English Subtitles

Running time is approximately 121 minutes

Greenberg

Writer/director Noah Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale) tells the story of Florence, an L.A personal assistant (Greta Gerwig) who encounters Greenberg (Ben Stiller) the brother of her employer, who has aimlessly drifted away from New York and arrives while his relatives are away. Jennifer Jason Leigh, Rhys Ifans and Mark Duplass co-star in this very human comedy about the need of people to make a genuine human connection. Rated R

Running time is approximately 107 minutes

The Ghost Writer

The ghostwriter for the former British Prime Minister (Pierce Brosnan) has washed up dead on a beach. Another ghost (Ewan McGregor) is quickly hired as the public man's memoirs need some serious sanitizing before they can be published. Olivia Williams, Kim Cattrall, Tom Wilkinson and Eli Wallach co-star in this amusing, moody new film based on Robert Harris's novel The Ghost, directed by Roman Polanski with a masterful score by Alexander Desplat. Rated PG-13

Running time is approximately 128 minutes

Crazy Heart

Academy Award nominee, Golden Globe and SAG Award winner for Best Actor Jeff Bridges stars as a hard living country singer who is on the verge of finding redemption through Jean, a journalist who is willing to see him from the inside out. Academy Award nominee for Best Supporting Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal co-stars with Robert Duvall and Colin Farrell. Scott Cooper directs from a script he adapted from the novel by Thomas Cobb. Rated R

Running time is approximately 111 minutes

The Last Station

Writer/director Michael Hoffman adapted Jay Parini's novel of the same name and has created a beautiful film which tells the story of Leo Tolstoy's last days. The idealistic Valentin (James McAvoy), hired to be Tolstoy's secretary, quickly gets an education in the politics of the estate. Tolstoy's philosophy of celibacy, poverty and vegetarianism has created a cult of followers, enraging his emotional wife (Helen Mirren) and encouraging a self-serving disciple (Paul Giamatti). Helen Mirren and Christopher Plummer are both nominated for Academy Awards for these roles. Rated R

Running time is approximately 112 minutes
