Rhys Ifans and Mark Duplass co-star in this very human comedy
about the need of people to make a genuine human connection.

in this amusing, moody new film based on Robert Harris's novel

Writer/director Michael Hoffman adapted Jay Parini's
novel of the same name and has created a beautiful film which
tells the story of Leo Tolstoy's last days. The idealistic Valentin
(James McAvoy), hired to be Tolstoy's secretary, quickly gets
an education in the politics of the estate. Tolstoy's philosophy
of celibacy, poverty and vegetarianism has created a cult of
followers, enraging his emotional wife (Helen Mirren) and encouraging
a self-serving disciple (Paul Giamatti). Helen Mirren and Christopher
Plummer are both nominated for Academy Awards for these roles.
